Monica and I decided to get out of the house on the Saturday before Father’s Day. The skies were gray but perfect for snapping photos so off we went to visit the Kingsbrae Gardens in Saint Andrews. We wanted specifically to see the Miss Satomi dogwood in bloom and it did not disappoint. Irises and azaleas were also stunning as were the lilacs and lupines.
After our garden tour, we went for lunch at the Niger Reef Cafe. Excellent Curry Chicken sandwich for Mon and Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf for me. Dessert was strawberry-rhubarb crisp and carrot cake. Yummy!
To top it all off, on the way back to Saint John, we took a side trip into Blacks Harbour to see the stained glass windows of Stella Maris Catholic Church. I was over the moon to see the five Guido Nincheri windows along with the windows of four other glass artists. What a wonderful mix of artwork in this church. I couldn’t have enjoyed this day more. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Our friends, Glenn and Judy, visited from St. George to pick up some commissioned glass. Then the four of us went to lunch at Ta-Ke Sushi for Glenn and Judy’s inaugural meal. Always such a treat to watch newbies experience their first sushi. They were very brave. We laughed. Nobody got sick. It was great to see them.
Monica and I, along with Maneau and Jake, enjoyed a wonderful 2-day circuit around the western half of Nova Scotia. We stayed at the luxurious White Point resort near Liverpool, ate fantastic food, enjoyed the beautiful coastal scenery, and visited twelve breweries/distilleries to sample some of Nova Scotia’s finest beverages. They say ‘laughter is the best medicine’. Well, we were fully medicated by the time we got home.

Monica got royally spoiled this weekend by all of us… and so she should. She deserves all the accolades. On Saturday, she and her sister, Marlene, were toured around the Saints (Stephen and Andrew) by their daughters. On Sunday morning, she was toured around Fredericton by her son and me. In the evening, Monica made a beautiful meal of Lemon-Dill Halibut, Shrimp and Scallops with rice and asparagus matched with a lightly oaked French Chardonnay.
All of the above was given and received with gratitude. I have the utmost respect for all mothers’ toil and love. Where would we be without it?
Monica and I enjoyed another Christmas gift (this one from our daughter, Sarah) on this fine Friday evening in Saint John…. tickets to the Imperial Theater to see Classic Albums Live perform The Beatles: Let It Be in concert. We started the evening off with an incredible authentic Indian meal at Royal King: A Taste of India. Then a walk through the park to the theater and two hours of music nostalgia. The Beatles certainly are music royalty. It was a glorious evening. Thank you, Sarah!
March 31st, 2023… 6°C and clear blue skies in Saint John. Monica and I took our daily walk uptown and really enjoyed the fresh air and change of scenery. We also enjoyed lunch at Ta-Ke Sushi on King Street (our fav) and then a stroll through the Saint John Arts Center to see the Kyla Chung exhibit. Her work is inspiring.
Monica has chef skills and we eat very well. Life is good!
The following gallery is from Dec 21st/’22 to March 21st/’23.
Monica outdid herself this St. Patrick’s Day 2023 and created a phenomenal dinner of Herbed Lamb Chops with Irish Colcannon and Spring Asparagus. Every time I look at these photos, my mouth waters.

Monica’s brother, Harry Taylor of North River, NB, kindly gave us two bags of pheasant meat. He and his son raise pheasants on Harry’s ranch and release them in the fall for hunting. We were very appreciative of his generosity and excited to try a new recipe. Monica searched Pinterest and chose one that looked easy/no-fail… Bacon-Wrapped Roasted Pheasant. She did the breasts in the oven with this recipe and tossed the legs in the air-fryer. The result was incredible. Thank you Harry and Monica!

Monica and I spent a lovely Valentine’s Day at home, just the two of us, with a nice bottle of wine and candlelight over a beautiful bowl of Cioppino. It was perfect!
Monica and I will often give each other gift cards at Christmas to various venues in Saint John. That way, we have things to look forward to throughout the winter. For January’s entertainment, we enjoyed a fine dinner at East Coast Bistro and then a show at the Imperial Theater; “Piaf”. Absolutely fantastic! The audience was on its feet several times. Here is a gallery of photos.
It’s Sunday, mid January, and we have an ice storm in Saint John. We needed some comfort food so Monica decided to make falafel. I was her sous-chef 👨🍳 and the official photographer 😁. We had a blast fooding together and mmmmmm so good!
Here is a gallery of pics capturing the process.
As 2022 draws to a close, I send out this heart-felt thank you to all those who inspired me to create. It was a wonderful year with lots of stained glass challenges and personal growth in my craft.
I take this opportunity to announce that 2023 will be the final year for Nellyglass Studio. At the end of the year, I will close my business and retire from commissioned work.
Until then, commissions are welcome.
Monica and I wish for All of You a Healthy and Happy New Year Celebration and a Joyous 2023!
Are you drawn to pretty lights?… me too, like a moth.
… the birthday of Ike Turner, born in 1941. It’s also the same day Japanese army generals received the command to bomb Pearl Harbor… which they did a month later.
Monica and I are having Ta-Ke Sushi in remembrance and watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain in Japan: Cook It Raw.
Monica and I got out of the house on this beautiful October afternoon for a 3-hour loop drive around central Queens County. We saw the leaves in their zenith framing two splendid waterfalls… and we were quieted.
Monica and I stole away for a 2-night escape to beautiful Grand Manan Island… in search of lobster, sea glass and some quality together time. We found all that… and had our fill.
These 48 photos highlight our 48 hours on Grand Manan Island.
