My 2026 birthday celebration started 24 hours early. On a damp September 3rd Thursday, Monica treated me to a tasty meal at Ta-Ke Sushi in uptown Saint John. Wow, the Unagi Donburi was incredible. Monnie had her favorite, the Lobster Maki (deep fried). We had enough to bring some leftovers home along along with an extra Dragon Maki for lunch the next day.
Then, we drove straight to Dairy Queen for a sweet treat dessert and also picked up a chocolate Happy Birthday log for the weekend celebrations. Let the bloating begin!!

With Ryan home for the Labor Day long weekend, Friday evening was a casual mix of good food and cribbage. Mon and Ryan even let me win the first game of the crib tournament. How thoughtful of them… on my birthday. 🃏

Saturday was blustery with sun, cloud and some rain. It was also Sarah and Matt’s 5th Anniversary so all the more reason to celebrate. They invited the three of us onto their boat at the SJ Marina for an afternoon of bubbly refreshments and animated story telling. As the sun was sinking, we all moved inside to the marina restaurant for a hearty meal of mixed appetizers and dessert. These are such good times. 💖

Sunday was recovery day. Another damp and blustery outside saw us all relaxing inside, each one engaged in their own amusements. The quiet was occasionally punctuated by a rousing game of cribbage. Game #4 was one for the record books.

Of course, there was good food all day long to keep us nourished and awake in anticipation of dessert later on.

It was a wonderful weekend and just exactly how I like to celebrate my birthday; lots of family love and lots of good food. The Cribbage tournament was intense with a three-way tie leading into game seven. Monica was first over the finish line, laughing all the way.
